Car of the Year 2015, the Volkswagen Passat, was announced in Palexpo on the eve of Geneva Motor Show press day. Hakan Matson, president of the Jury, handed the trophy to Heinz-Jakob Neusser, responsible of Techical Development for the brand.
The Passat was the favourite of the Jury for a big margin, gathering 340 points against the 248 of runner-up, Citroen C4 Cactus. The Jury comprises 58 members, all of them motoring journalists, from 22 European countries. The other finalist were: Mercedes C-class (221 points), Ford Mondeo (203), Nissan Qashqai (160), BMW 2-series Active Tourer (154) and Renault Twingo (124).
Hakan Matson, president of the Jury, handed the trophy to Karl-Heinz Neusser, responsible for Techical Development of the brand, who remarked: "We are delighted by the honour of "Car of the Year 2015". This accolade has a very special significance for us because it is awarded by independent international trade journalists. In addition, the honour is known to have a high standing for our customers."
The award has a long heritage: it dates back to 1964, when the Rover 2000 scooped the first win.
'It’s the most prestigious award in the automotive industry,’ said Matson. 'Our voting is totally transparent: all the points and the jurors’ verdicts are published on our website.’
