UK driving test to be revamped?

The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) and young driver safety organisation the Under 17 Car Club Charitable Trust are calling for the UK driving test to be revamped to make it more relevant to the real world.

Currently the driving test does not include any testing of a driver’s ability to cope safely with country roads, poor weather or driving at night - aspects both organisations know are the main risk factors in the first six months of solo driving.

Company car drivers more likely to take risks in wintery conditions

As temperatures drop below zero in some parts of the country, research by the RAC suggests company car drivers are more likely than private motorists to drive on dangerous snowy roads.
The survey, which was carried out as part of the RAC’s Report on Motoring 2014, found 16% of company car drivers admitted to regularly driving in snowy conditions, compared to just 3% of private car drivers. Is your automatic costing you more than a manual?

Cars with automatic transmissions are more likely to fail and when they do they are more expensive to fix than their manual counterparts, according to automotive specialist, Warranty Direct.
The gearbox is one of the most expensive parts of a car to repair or replace, with garage costs rising as high as £5,850.

DriveNow carsharing scheme launched in London

DriveNow, the carsharing joint venture between the BMW Group and Sixt SE, launched its flexible carsharing service in London last month.

Initially, 210 BMW 1 Series and MINI Countryman models are available for spontaneous hire. DriveNow furthermore intends to add 30 all-electric BMW i3 cars to the London fleet in spring 2015, expanding it to a total of 300 vehicles during the course of next year.
